Two Denver metro area high schools are seeing an increased police presence Thursday after school officials learned about rumors of a school shooting threat on Facebook.
Extra police officers are stationed on the campuses of Thornton High School and Prairie View High School in Brighton as a precaution. The Thornton Police Department says they only found out about the threats on Wednesday night and are saying that though they "are not credible," they're still trying to figure out where the threats originated.
“If you go to Thornton high don’t go tomorrow they are planning to shoot up the school,” reads one Facebook remark, according to KDVR. Another Facebook post allegedly read that the incident was supposed to occur around 10 o'clock.
Joe Ferdani, Director of Communications with the Adams 12 School District said parents were notified about the threat just before 7 a.m. on Thursday.
On Twitter, at least one student posted about the increased police presence:
I'm at Thornton High school today. There is a security presence, and half the school is not here, but I feel safe.

The school was not closed Thursday, and as of publishing, it's unknown whether the police presence will continue on Friday.
