Tim Tebow Swings At First Minor League Pitch, And Hits A Homer

With his once-promising football career behind him, former quarterback Tim Tebow had tongues wagging with the announcement that he’d give professional baseball a try.

Skeptics thought his greatest accomplishment on the field would be his jumping memes — but after signing a minor league contract with the New York Mets, Tebow was able to put his money where his bat is.

ESPN writer Adam Rubin reports that during his first at-bat in an instructional league game, Tebow swung at the first ball — and hit it out of the park. West Palm Beach, Florida, journalist Katie Johnson captured the moment on Twitter, as seen in the video above.

Tebow homered off a pitch from John Kilichowski, a player from Vanderbilt University who was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 11th round of June’s draft. USA Today pointed out that the 22-year-old pitcher was just 12 when Tebow led the University of Florida to one of two national championships ... in football, remember.

Even without the home run, some fans watching in Florida probably were just excited to see him at all.
