Grammy Award-winning producer Timbaland has created hits for some of the greatest women in the music industry. His accomplishments include helping to introduce the world to Missy Elliott with her chart-topping debut album "Supa Dupa Fly" and melding percussive sounds for Aaliyah's hit song "Are You That Somebody," among many others.
But nearly a decade later, the producer still says women face obstacles in the music industry.
"We need more women because I feel like, to me, women are way more smarter than men. It's just that y'all have it harder to break in this day and age of society," he told HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski Monday.
Timbaland said he hopes to help lead the conversation about the lack of female artists and decision makers.
"Most of the people I do magical work with [are] women, all women. If you really look at my category, it's mostly all women," he said.
He added: "I just want to be a voice, as a [male] voice, to be on the forefront."
