National Democrats are hitting Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who's running for U.S. Senate, one more time in the hope of saving Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and, by extension, their majority in the chamber.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's latest 30-second television spot, as first reported by Talking Points Memo on Tuesday, highlights Cotton's record on Medicare, pediatric research funding and the Violence Against Women Act.
"When you needed a helping hand, Tom Cotton voted against you, to line the pockets of billionaires and corporations," the DSCC ad's narrator says, referring to Cotton's vote for Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) budget.
"A vote for Tom Cotton is a vote against Arkansas women," a woman adds.
Democrats have attempted to put Cotton on the defensive over the issues the ad mentions, as well as his vote against the farm bill and opposition to the state's ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage. (Cotton now says he'll vote for the minimum wage increase, "as a citizen.") However, Cotton has capitalized on President Barack Obama's unpopularity in the state, linking Pryor to the president in regard to foreign policy issues such as the rise of the Islamic State.
Cotton has the edge in polling with just seven days until Nov. 4. Republicans say unseating Pryor is a key component to winning back the Senate.
