The World's 10 Most Competitive Cities: Report

If You Can Make It Here , You Can Make It Anywhere

If you can make it in New York, you should be able to make it anywhere.

That's because the Big Apple is the most competitive city in the world, at least according to the Global City Competitiveness Index, a report conducted by the Economic Intelligence Group and commissioned by Citigroup. Other cities ranking high on the list include London and Paris.

While the sheer size of New York's economy may play a big role in its high ranking, the index takes a variety of factors into account, including a city's quality of life and human capital, as well as its business and regulatory environment. Though the 2008 financial crisis and the European debt crisis have some believing the west is in the midst of a downfall, U.S. and European cities took seven of the top 10 spots, largely because of their ability to attract top talent, according to the report.

But once that talent lands in New York, they may have some trouble making it big enough to live the good life. Three of the city’s boroughs count in the top five towns of with the highest cost of living. In addition, three of the five wealthiest zip codes are in New York.
