Tory Burch For InStyle: New Column Brings Magazine Into Luxury Market

InStyle Taps Tory Burch

Tory Burch has been tapped by InStyle to write their "Ask a designer" column, Women's Wear Daily reports. Burch will be taking the reigns from current resident expert Rachel Roy, whose last column appeared in the June issue.

The designer seems like a logical choice, since she's been doing a pretty good job musing about style on her own blog (we're particularly impressed with her music playlists). In a sneak peak of the magazine's column, WWD provides a few of Tory's tips:

To a 35-year-old woman with two kids looking for a timeless bag, Burch recommends Celine’s $3,250 Trapeze. Another reader wants to know what looks good on women with long torsos and short legs. A high-waist skirt or a caftan, Burch answers.

That's a mighty big price tag for a bag (and, trust us, we're usually suckers for the whole "timeless" justification). Since its launch in 1991, the magazine has had a high-low vibe, touting its ability to bridge "the gap between fantasy and reality." But it seems that now the glossy is taking a step further into the luxury market with its style service.

Maybe the mag is hoping to tap into the mind of the aspirational shopper (because, with most of its readers earning an average of $77,993 per household, spending $3,250 on a handbag may actually just be a fantasy) or maybe InStyle is trying to court Vogue's more luxury-minded readership.

Whatever it is, we're curious to see if this mindset seeps into the rest of the magazine's pages. And, of course, we're excited to read more of Burch's style advice. Even if the idea of wearing a caftan in our daily lives in New York City is also more of a fantasy.
