Two adults and one teenage boy have been charged with murder in connection with a fatal home invasion and shooting on Chicago's Northwest Side.
Andre Vasquez, 16, was pronounced dead approximately two hours after the Tuesday invasion of the home where he lived with his 14-year-old sister and mother in the city's Avondale neighborhood. As of Thursday, his mother remains hospitalized in critical condition. Both were shot in the head.
Sean Williams, 33; Davonta Williams, 17 and Jennifer M. Vojinovic, 27, were each charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder, in addition to a bevy of other charges: one count of armed robbery, one count of home invasion and three counts of unlawful restraint, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. All three suspects live in Chicago.
Both Williams men allegedly entered the Avondale home, located in the 3400 block of North Lawndale Avenue, about 8:40 a.m., while Vojinovic remained outside, behind the wheel of the getaway car. The two male suspects, according to police, took Vasquez and his mother into their basement, bound them with duct tape and demanded they pay up. After going through the home on the hunt for money and valuables, they returned to the basement and shot both in the head.
Vasquez's sister managed to escape the home and was not injured in the invasion.
The three suspects were arrested shortly after they left the home by Albany Park District police officers after they identified a vehicle that matched a license plate number that a witness took down, the Chicago Tribune reports. Two guns were reportedly retrieved from the scene.
Vasquez, a sophomore at Schurz High School, and his sister were reportedly opening their apartment's front door to leave for school when the two male suspects entered their home, according to the Tribune.
Police have not released additional information concerning the suspects' motive. They will appear in court Thursday.
Clarification: Though a previous version of this story did not clearly state that Vasquez's 14-year-old sister escaped the home and avoided injury during the invasion, this is indeed the case.
