Turkish bride Candan Canik used social media to tie the knot.
Canik and her husband, Cengizhan Çelik, a social media editor, used Twitter to exchange their vows on Monday, becoming the first Turkish couple to do so, according to World Bulletin, a global news website.
The couple and their officiant, along with their witnesses, were all together in a room, but the couple exchanged their vows over Twitter via an iPad. The officiant posed each question as a tweet, and the couple each responded with a tweet reading "I Do." The couple's wedding was officiated by Mustafa Kara, mayor of Üsküdar, a Turkish district.
After they tweeted their vows, the couple signed a physical marriage certificate.
The groom told tech news website Tecca that the couple just "wanted to have a little surprise" at their wedding.
Technology helped another couple marry in 2011 when ash from an Icelandic volcano caused flight cancellations and stranded them in Dubai. The pair's family and friends, as well as their officiant, were all in London, ready for the nuptials, so the couple used their webcam and Skype to say their vows and communicate with their officiant.
