After two weeks with no arrests in the suspected homicide of Faith Danielle Hedgepeth, a University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill student, the victim's friends and family want answers.
Community members held a march Saturday to remember Hedgepeth, which also served to keep the case in the spotlight.
Her father, Roland Hedgepeth, told WNCT, "It makes me very happy to see people are still very interested in this case and they want to see justice for Faith."
According to reports, Hedgepeth, 19, was killed in her apartment on Sept. 7. The Duke Chronicle reports police are guarding the investigation's details, including how she discovered, closely.
According to emergency services recordings:
Durham authorities found Hedgepeth in her bedroom, and there was blood. Additionally, the recordings indicate that by the time medics arrived, her body was cold to the touch, and it was believed that someone had been in the apartment.
The Daily Tar Heel editorial board recently criticized police for keeping Hedgepeth's family just as in the dark as the rest of the community.
"While we do not doubt the hard work of the local police, leaving her family uninformed only amplifies the pain they are feeling," they wrote. "The speed at which information is being released to the family and the public is unacceptable. More than two weeks have passed, and police have only said the incident was not a random act of violence."
Hedgepeth was a biology major and a Gates Millennium Scholar. She was also active in the UNC American Indian Center.
The Red Robin where Hedgepeth worked is hosting a fundraiser on Sept. 26 to benefit the Faith Hedgepeth Scholarship Fund, according to the Chronicle.
