Today's blog post was scheduled to be a guest blog, however, after the sudden and unexpected departure of our beautiful angel, Prince, this past week, my heart guided me to write and pay homage to his remarkable life, his legacy, and most importantly, his spiritual evolution.
Now, I am definitely a Prince fan, however, anyone that knows me knows that since childhood my heart belonged exclusively to Michael Jackson. I recall having countless Prince versus Michael debates, arguing that my beloved MJ was the greater talent and bigger musical icon. Yet today, I write to you with tears pouring down my face, listening to "Purple Rain" on repeat, thinking to myself, both were geniuses in their own right. There was and never needed to be any comparison. They both soared through this Earth with spirits of a giant and generously shared their God-given talents with us. They gave to us until they had no more to give. When you live and give of your Soul during your entire physical existence, there comes a time when the body tires and the Soul completes its earthly assignment. As sad and as tragic as it is that Prince is no longer with us in the flesh, I find such peace and comfort in knowing that he is now serving God in a bigger way.
I deeply admire Prince's musical talents and genius, but I am more in awe of his tenacious, unapologetic, and God-believing Spirit. Prince got it! He completely understood the path! He knew his journey was more than just the music he created and the fans he excited. Prince knew he had a mission to carry out and lessons he needed to learn. Once he grasped the lessons that he was here on Earth to learn, he evolved and transitioned to the new, more enlightened, spiritual level that he had reached.
I am truly spellbound by the enigmatic and powerful way in which he lived his life. He was "weird", a mystery, intensely private, and seemingly uninterested in fame and fanfare. He simply loved to compose, write, and play music! We never witnessed Prince tout his money or fame around, or grace the covers of tabloids or reality shows. He didn't love public interviews. Yet we still loved him. We 'Adored' him in spite of his reclusion. He was well versed in politics and government. He was a humanitarian, a devout Jehovah's Witness, an inspirer, and a man who cared about the world and its disenfranchised people.
Prince undeniably understood duality. He was a fierce spirit but recognized and fully embraced his humanness. He honored God and lived from Spirit, yet he knew he was man and had passionate desires of the flesh. Though later in life it seems he became more of Spirit. He was man and he was woman. He was Man and he was Spirit. Was he gay? Was he straight? He left us all guessing.
As music mogul L.A. Reid stated on the Today Show with Matt Lauer this past week,
"[He had] the masculinity of Teddy Pendergrass, but he could take your girl [while] wearing high heels." ~ L.A. Reid
He could skillfully, yet authentically, blend God and sex together in one song like no other artist could. And with a face fully beat with make-up, cloaked in women's attire, including 4-inch heels, or thigh high boots and bikini bottoms, Prince's swaggered and cool bravado, still seduced women. He was notorious for having relationships with some of the most beautiful women in the industry.
Prince was bold, he was fearless, and wasn't concerned with the opinions of others. He wasn't trying to make friends while here or gain the favors or permission of others. He was here to make music, to change lives, and make an impact on the world.
Job well done Prince!! I admire you in ways I never knew before. You have inspired me to stay focused and committed to my journey, to rock on and unapologetically kick a#*, regardless of the naysayers, the doubters, and the non-supporters. Because our journey isn't to please others. Our journey is to please God and to love and accept ourselves unconditionally. Prince accepted and embraced all of who he was, whether "good" or "bad", he stayed true to himself. His courage, his fortitude, and his brilliant genius will live on forever.
What can we all say we've learned from Prince? Isn't that what it's all about? The valuable lessons we can learn from his life and legacy?
Keep rocking on Prince! You came, you saw, and you SERVED! You mastered it all in this lifetime. You are a true Rock Star! And my friend, "you probably don't have to come back here again."
Rest well sweet angel as the Prince you are! Thank you for sharing your music, your heart, and your Soul! And please don't forget to send us a heavenly melody or two.
