'Vampire Diaries' Finale: Elena Chooses, Someone Takes Cure

On the season finale of "The Vampire Diaries," Damon and Elena were able to verify that the sire bond was gone. But it wasn't until later that they finally addressed how they feel about one another. Damon started off by listing all of his faults and why he's a terrible person for her.

"You’ve been a terrible person," Elena agreed. "You’ve made all the wrong choices. And of all the choices, I have made, this will prove to be the worst one. But I am not sorry that I’m in love with you.”

She chose Damon, which was enough to convince Stefan that it was time to skip town and try and live his own life. Only, before he could do so, Silas confronted him. Though he'd been turned back to stone by Bonnie, when she died he was restored. He also revealed that he was a doppelganger ... of Stefan -- or rather, Stefan was the "shadow self" of Silas. Silas then stabbed Stefan and threw him into a lake trapped inside a safe.

Entertainment Weekly was left with a lot of questions after "The Vampire Diaries" finale. "So will Silas pose as Stefan now in Mystic Falls, or will he go off to do whatever in another city? Does this mean everything Silas said about wanting to die and be with his one true love was a lie? Couldn’t he have done this to Stefan a lot sooner? Theories? Regardless, [Paul] Wesley should have fun next season.”

Speaking of doppelgangers, Katherine attacked Elena at the high school. In a desperate move, Elena shoved the cure down Katherine's throat, thus turning her into a human. Oh, and Bonnie's spell to permanently bring Jeremy back to life worked, so he's alive ... and she's dead. Luckily, he can see dead people, so all those guest stars -- and Bonnie -- can always make return appearances next season.

All of these twists of "The Vampire Diaries" finale had Hollywood Life calling the show's executive producer Julie Plec an “evil genius.” Fans will have to come back next season to see how it plays out, and they can follow Klaus back to New Orleans in "The Originals."
