Wait, who are we kidding? Things were 25,000 times weirder than that. This is "The View," after all.

News broke early Monday morning that Pope Benedict XVI will be resigning on Feb. 28, 2013, sending networks scrambling to cover the breaking story. The ladies of "The View" discussed the pope's resignation during the show's "Hot Topics" segment, but seemed to take a somewhat unconventional approach to the topic.

"What's he going to do now? I mean an 85-year-old guy in a dress is hard to book," co-host Joy Behar quipped.

Co-host Sherri Shepherd discussed her admiration for the pope and his announcement. "I kinda admire [the pope] because he said 'I don't have enough strength to continue.' The other pope we had before, he couldn't even lift his head up. And I'm like, 'How can he see who he's ruling over?' He can't even lift his head up!"

"They don't rule over people," Whoopi Goldberg interjected.

"What do they do?" Shepherd wondered.

"He blesses people," guest host Ali Wentworth said. Goldberg offered more of a description. "He does this!" she said as she made the sign of the cross.

Behar then launched into this whole story about how the husband of a "View" staffer is distantly related to a pope from "back in the day." She then tried to recall the name of the Showtime series "The Borgias" about Pope Alexander VI, but couldn't remember the title. She added, "Her husband's related to a pope. I can't get over it!"

"Well I'm sure there are a lot of Italian people here in America whose family goes back to popes," Goldberg said. "Not me!' Behar shot back.

We somehow think the absent Barbara Walters might have been able to clear all of this up.
