Volcano Garbage: Ethiopia's Erta Ale Swallows Trash Bag (VIDEO)

WATCH: Volcano Engulfs Trash

Forget about piling garbage into a landfill. It seems an active volcano is the latest dumping ground for human waste.

In a video posted on LiveLeak.com a 66-pound bag of garbage is seen being thrown into Ethiopia's Erta Ale volcano lake, notes Nine MSN.

After dropping 262 feet into the volcano, the crust is broken as the bag is engulfed in flames.

The lake at Erta Ale has persisted for many years and contains basaltic lava, explains Volcano Discovery.

Known by scientists to be the region's most active volcano, the lava inside Erta Ale can rise to a temperature of 1,200 degrees Celsius.

Only a few lava lakes exist throughout the world, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
