With the recent passing of Veteran's Day, I would like to use this platform to share a message from someone currently serving The United States. The following is a message from an anonymous Marine:
"I'm no grunt. I haven't fought in combat. It's not for a lack of trying. I've been in over 5 years and have been selected for 3 deployments. All have been canceled.
I recently lost my best friend in this world to suicide. He was a Corporal of Marines. Every day it hurts. Every day I think of his wife. I think of his stepson. I think of his son. I can't fathom how they feel. Me personally, I'm fucking hurting. But I suffer silently. I cry to myself when I'm alone. I let no one else in.
That's not us, right? We don't allow anyone to know the real us. We never do. We're the warriors of our nation. We're ready to fight at the drop of a dime. Would we do anything for our nation? Of course we would. But do we take care of ourselves? No, we don't. If you're anything like me, which most of you are, we'd rather drink ourselves into a coma before we'd admit we need help.
Listen up fuckers. You're not invincible. It is okay to ask someone, anyone for help. I rotate who I talk to because I'm ashamed to talk to anyone. I shouldn't be but I am. I want you all to know suicide isn't the goal. It isn't a choice and it's not an option. I might not know you but I promise I'll miss you. We all will. Once a Marine always a Marine isn't a fucking joke. We don't seek the applause, we don't seek the appreciation, and we don't seek the attention. If you do you're in the wrong business. We all joined for our own reasons but 6 months in you probably realized, like me, that your own reasons don't matter. You're in for the people around you. You stop caring about race, religion, creed, color, sexual orientation, and even whether or not someone has a cock between their legs. Do your job and do it well and no one will care.
Please Marines, sailors, soldiers, coasties, airpeople: We're with you. If you feel lost you're wrong. You're a vital part of the fight. We need you. Do your job and we WILL take care of you. And when I say we will take care of you...I don't mean the VA. Fuck the VA. The VA can't take care of anyone. We have to take care of each other. Families may say it's us against the world but for us. At some point it could be us against the world. Literally. I'm ready to cash that check for us. Just like the rest of you. Rah?"
