Wendy's Says Hidden Message In New Logo Was 'Unintentional'

Wendy's Had No Idea About The Hidden Message In Their Logo

Wendy's on Monday debunked the theory that it purposefully snuck a hidden message within its new logo.

Speculation about the subliminal message behind the logo, released last year, had been swirling since at least April when some people began to notice a word in the new image of the red-headed girl.

Can you see it?

It looks like the word, "Mom" is written along the ruffles of the girl's collar. Here's an all-red version of the logo as it appears on Wendy's styrofoam cups. See it now?

"We are aware of this and find it interesting that it appears our Wendy cameo has 'mom' on her ruffled collar. We can assure you it was unintentional," Wendy's senior vice president of communications, Denny Lynch, wrote in an emailed message to The Huffington Post.

Design blog Stock Logos pointed out the "hidden message" in the logo on Saturday. Since then, many have been speculating as to what the "Mom" message could be referring to.

Stock Logos thought Wendy's intended to create an association between Wendy's food and Mom's home cooking, noting that a Food Network UK survey found that more than half of men prefer their mom's cooking over their wife's.

Others wondered if the word "Mom" referred to the girl herself, who appears much older in the new logo. The girl, according to Wendy's, is founder Dave Thomas' daughter Wendy at age 8. Twenty-nine years later, when the new logo was released, so was an older and more mature Wendy.

Just in case you need a refresher, here is the old logo:
