The process of coming out as trans can be daunting. There are many stories that serve as inspiration or listicles that offer tips for the difficult conversation but the task is difficult, no matter how you slice it. Summoning the courage to reveal your true self is a hard for most non-LGBTQ+ people. So imagining the struggle is tough.

In an effort to raise awareness, today is Transgender Day of Visibility. It is a day to celebrate the trans community and spread awareness. You can show your support on social media using the hashtags #TransResistance or #TDOV. If you need something to share, this story about recent trans victories is a good place to start.

If you need something to inspire, the bravery in the above video from Melody Maia Monet should do. In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, Melody stopped strangers in the street to ask them if they knew anything about being transgender before coming out to them as transgender. Watch the reactions and you’ll understand why we need more awareness around transgender issues.

Share this video. It could help one of your friends or family members with their invisible struggle.
