It is that time of the year where every girl sends out their application for a Valentine. Girls always obsess over wanting to have someone on Valentines Day to take them out or give them some huge bouquet of flowers and a stuffed animal. I'm here to tell you why it is okay to not have a hot date when February 14th rolls around.

I've had my fair share of relationships in college, and I can tell you that celebrating this day single at age 21 is okay. Yeah sure, maybe a boy won't give you chocolates or take you out to Cheesecake Factory. Instead, go out to a movie with your girlfriends and watch the new Fifty Shades Darker, or drink a bottle of wine and order pizza with your closest friends and laugh about how ridiculous Corinne is on the Bachelor.

I can promise you that celebrating Valentine's Day with your friends will be just as fun, and maybe even more fun than your friend whose with her boyfriend that only cares about Natty Light or if his Vineyard Vines polo looks good on him.

I'm not saying that having someone on Valentine's Day is bad. It is nice to have a significant other to celebrate with and to make the day a little more special. However, we are so young and we have the rest of our lives to spend this day with someone special.

So many of us get caught up in wanting a relationship and wishing away our time that should be spent with friends. I remember in high school having a valentine was the biggest deal. We were told growing up that if you didn't have someone on Valentine's Day, you should boycott and cry yourself to sleep while listening to Tear Drops on my Guitar by Taylor Swift.

Now that I am older, I don't dread Valentine's Day because I get to spend it with my amazing friends and family who I love way much more than a boy.

So on this Valentine's Day, don't stare down all the couples holding hands walking around campus. Smile and keep your head held high because you are beautiful and a man will come knocking at your door when the time comes.
