Wigstock: The Cruise Is Returning To NYC For A Second Year

Wigstock: The Cruise is returning!

What happens when you put a bunch of legendary drag queens on a boat cruise around NYC? This summer, you’ll have the opportunity to find out courtesy of NYC’s most famous drag queen: Lady Bunny.

For anyone with an investment in the history of drag culture or queer performance, Wigstock should be a familiar name. The massive festival of drag, performance and music, founded by Bunny and Scott Lifshutz, ran for 20 years in the ‘80s, ‘90s and early 2000s, attracting over 30,000 drag enthusiasts at its height.

Last year, Bunny and Lifshutz revived the festival in the form of a boat cruise around Manhattan. This year, the pair are once again producing Wigstock: The Curise alongside Michael Fesco and Dougie Meyer. The two-hour show will be co-hosted by drag queen celebrity Linda Simpson and feature Connie Fleming, Jimmy James, Ebony Jett, Glamamore, Juanita More, John Kelly as Joni Mitchell, and Tabboo! ― just to name a few.

“Last year’s event affirmed that the Wigstock magic is alive and that New York wants Wigstock back,” Bunny said in a statement sent to The Huffington Post. “Not just on water. We’d love to eventually bring the outdoor festival back.”

Wigstock: The Cruise will sail on it’s second voyage on Aug. 21st from Pier 40 on NYC’s West Side Hwy at 7:30 p.m. Head here for tickets and information, and check out photos from last year’s event below.
