Wisconsin Dems Get Silver Lining In Recall Election

Democrats have appeared to win control of the Wisconsin state Senate, with former state Sen. John Lehman (D) declaring victory in a recall election of state Sen. Van Wanggaard (R).

According to late results, Lehman leads Wanggaard by a margin of 36,255 votes to 35, 476. The results are still unofficial and Wanggaard has not yet conceded, but Lehman declared victory. If Lehman's win is confirmed, Democrats will have a 17-16 edge in the chamber.

Two other Republican state senators, Scott Fitzgerald and Terry Moulton, handily won their recalls and a third won an open seat.

Though the results are good news for Democrats, balance in the legislature could change again in November when 16 of 33 Senate seats will be up for reelection.
