Dogs have always been thought of as man's best friend, but did you know that using the right form of payment to care for your furry companion could help save you money on your next flight.

In honor of Friday's National Dog Day, a holiday created to encourage dog adoptions, I will show you a credit card that allows you to care for your pooch and also lets you rack up credit card rewards, which can be used towards travel.
Caring for a dog is expensive, according to PetEducation.com, but you can reap rewards in the process. The average annual cost to care for a dog is about $1,193 and about $500 a year after that. That price includes vaccines, veterinarian bills, training, flea control and other expenses. And with more than 56 million dog owners, that's a lot of money.
"Most dog lovers will willingly dive in their wallets to pay for these expenses with cash, debit or general use credit card," said Rosemarie Clancy of RewardExpert.com, a credit card based travel company. "But using a tailored credit card for pet expenses could help keep extra cash in your pocket and allow you to see more of the world."
For example, the American Kennel Club Visa allows you to earn three points per purchase from pet stores, visits to the veterinary office and purchases from the American Kennel Club. The card also offers two points for gas and grocery purchases and one percent on other spending.
The card allows you to transfer those points and redeem them for travel. So, if you charge $1,200 on pet expenses on this card, you've racked up close to 4,000 points, a fraction of the average 25,000 points needed to score a low-cost domestic flight.
There's no annual fee, and another added bonus, you can put a picture of your pooch on the card. With all these perks, you'll definitely be barking for joy!
