Candy Crush, the Movie: Coming to a Theater Near You!

Well, not exactly.

Although this short video made by YouTube star Ryan Higa (also known by his username nigahiga) was made for humor, it highlights the exponentially increasing hype surrounding gaming apps for smartphones and tablets.

According to The Flurry Blog, U.S. consumers spend an average of 2 hours and 38 minutes every day on their smartphones, with 80 percent of that time inside apps. The creation of the iPhone and App Store six years ago created a new tech era focused on apps that give endless possibilities to what our phones can do.

So how do we spend most of our time on these portals of infinite potential? Gaming, of course! Gaming apps dominate the Apple and Google app store in popularity, with consumers spending more than 40 percent of their mobile phone time on games.
