There's a liar around you everyday -- and it's you! Don't feel badly about it, we all lie to ourselves at one time or another.
The problem is that self-lies are the catalyst for self-sabotaging, self-defeating behavior and could keep you from the success you say you want -- and deserve.
Lies impact all areas of our lives: marriage, friendships, finances, health, and career. When it comes to work, statistics show 71% of young workers are disengaged in their jobs, so there is definitely some pretense going on somewhere.( 3 Ways Leaders Fall Victim to Self Sabotage)
In my experience, the most common self-lies include:
I'm too old for ______
I will never find true love
I will never get out of debt
Change is difficult - I can't do it
I will never lose weight
If you have ever told yourself any of these lies, then keep reading. (8 Steps To Attract Positive Energy Into Your Life) You will be pleasantly surprised to know that this self-defeating behavior can be reversed and you can live a healthier, happier life.
Most of the lies we believe have been planted into our subconscious from childhood. They were told to us by a trusting, loving individual in our formative years and we held onto them into adulthood with those lies dominating our thoughts, actions and behaviors.
Here's a newsflash: No one is responsible for your happiness except you, yet it is all too common that people give power and control to others (spouse, children, co-workers, boss, and society. See: How to Handle Workplace Enemies)
The first step in overcoming the self-lie trap is to realize that your self-worth is not determined by your accomplishments.
It should be based on who you are, not what you do or what you have (possessions). Next, we must understand that our "comfort zone" is hurting us, not helping us. There is nothing "comfortable" about being stuck in a rut. If you are willing to face your truth, take small steps to begin the process, and commit to the change. You can accomplish whatever you would like to do. If you can dream it, you can have it.
Truth and success begins with the 6 A's:
Try them and let us know how you make out.
What lies do you tell yourself?
