Senator Marco Rubio and Elizabeth Warren! Can We Call It Even and Drop It?

I believe both Senator Rubio and Elizabeth Warren when they talk about their family histories. I believe both of them heard those stories for years in their families and just repeated them. Big deal. No one died. Let's move on to more substantive issues.

In the 1990′s, Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren said she was part Native American. It now appears she is not part Native American or if she is, it is 1/32. Her political opponent wants her to answer more questions about it and she is getting lots of heat.

So who was Elizabeth Warren's source for claiming she was part Native American? Her family... the story has been passed down in the family:

Asked about the issue last week, Warren says that family stories passed on about their Native ties were the basis of her listing. And she said she removed herself in 1995 as a minority in the directories because her efforts to connect with people like her were not successful.

And now to the other side of the aisle, Republican Senator Marco Rubio!

Senator Rubio has been taking heat for saying his parents "came to America following Fidel Castro's takeover" of Cuba? (They came to the United States and became citizens before Castro's takeover.)

So who is Senator Marco Rubio's source? The same source Elizabeth Warren has for her heritage -- his family! His mistaken story likewise has been passed down in the family:

"The dates I have given regarding my family's history have always been based on my parents' recollections of events that occurred over 55 years ago and which were relayed to me by them more than two decades after they happened," he wrote on Oct. 20. "I was not made aware of the exact dates until very recently."

Here is my thought: let's drop it. Is this really worth all the attention being paid to these family lore errors?

Frankly, I believe both Senator Rubio and Elizabeth Warren. I believe both of them heard those stories for years in their families and just repeated them. Big deal. No one died. Let's move on to more substantive issues.

Am I wrong?
