Holiday Hazards and Accidents Prevention

Christmas -- with all of the cleaning, cooking and other home preparations it entails -- is one of the busiest holidays for homeowners. It is also one of the most hazardous. Statistics show that almost 13,000 people spend hours at the hospital every Christmas as a result of holiday-related accidents -- and there are a reported $17 million in annual property damages as well.

Where and why do holiday accidents occur? One of the most common places for accidents is the kitchen, where the preparation of extensive dinners can get out of control. It's reported that unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires during the holiday season. So, make sure you take steps to prevent kitchen fires. First, don't leave food unattended on the stovetop; second, if you must leave the kitchen -- whether for a bathroom break or to greet guests at the door -- turn off the stove!

Unattended cooking isn't the only thing around the house that could injure you this Christmas. Learn more about how to have a safe and happy holiday in this extensive infographic:
