After a five-year absence, Formula 1 racing returns to the US with the Austin, TX, Circuit of the Americas Grand Prix held November 16-18. The city is gearing up for 120,000 fans to attend Friday's practices, Saturday's qualifying round and Sunday's race. Event planners estimate 70 percent of fans are traveling to Texas for the weekend's race events and for Austin Fan Fest's lineup of concerts and after-race parties.
Austin's race is the 19th of the 20 races this year that takes the F1 cars and teams around the world in a series of points-awarded races accumulated to crown the year's world champion driver and world champion constructor (team). The US race comes second to last in the season and the 2012 world championships will be decided in São Paulo, Brazil, just a week after the race in Austin.
