Sam Stein's appearance on Tuesday's edition of The Ed Show touched on Senators in both major parties, covering both GOP grandstanding and Democratic discord.

Asked about a lone Republican Senator blocking unemployment benefits, Stein explained the situation and how it resolved:

Initially Jim Bunning wanted the money spent on unemployment insurance to be offset by money from the unspent stimulus funds. They said, 'Sure, we'll do a vote for it,' but he wouldn't let a vote happen because he knew his amendment would be defeated. Now it seems like that's exactly what's going to happen. It looks like a huge waste of time ... what a distraction.

Later, Stein spoke about labor unions supporting challenger Bill Halter in the Arkansas Senate primary while the White House stands behind incumbent Blanche Lincoln. "I think the story is beyond just the simple Senate campaign in Arkansas," he observed while explaining the apparent rift within the Democratic party.
