HuffPost political reporter Sam Stein appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe today to discuss the political fallout from the failed plane attack of the underwear bomber and the tough landscape the Democrats face as they look ahead to the 2010 elections.
While some pundits and political strategists focus on issues such as abortion and the budget deficit, Stein emphasized that with steady and high unemployment, every issue takes a backseat to jobs because if a voter is unemployed, he's not going to care about much else:
If you don't have employment in this country, or if you have serious underemployment in this country, people aren't going to be happy. It doesn't matter what other issues out there. It could be the budget deficit, it could be health care, it could be abortion. It doesn't matter. If you go to someone's house and they say they don't have a job, they're not going to be happy with the party in power.
