RIGHT NEXT DOOR: David Granger, Esquire Magazine Editor-in-Chief

Editor-in-chief of men's-magazine mainstay Esquire, Granger is making a concerted effort, amid industry doldrums, to prove that print still matters. He and his staff are doing so with a mix of "impatience and optimism," he says, and their efforts are paying off: Esquire's most successful period under Granger's long stewardship came during the industry's worst period. He immediately agreed to be part of this project, but insisted on waiting until spring -- because, he says, what he loves most about where he lives is the view. You can understand his point.
