Sorry Miley

We can't stop, we won't stop, but we should stop building you up, only to knock you down, way down. Please forgive us for being your "wrecking ball." It's the Hollywood dream and drama story told over and over again. Too many times to even list names. And, as a consumer of this media with daughters who once knew the lyrics to ALL of your songs (some of which I knew too), I want to say, "Sorry Miley." We are guilty of consuming all that you have given us: the good, the bad and everything in between. It's not your fault that you were thrown into a business at an age when you should be playing with dolls. My first-born daughter had a few auditions when she was a pre-schooler and we are so blessed that it didn't turn into more than that. Against her agent's requests, I chose to let her go to birthday parties over driving to LA for the next commercial. I let her be a kid! Thank God we didn't pursue her "career" when told many times by many people, "she is exactly what they look for!" Who are they anyway? I'm grateful for the journey that has helped me, help my daughter stay out of Hollywood (at least for now). But, I think even parents with the best intentions cannot fully protect their children from the pressures and unrealistic expectations that are put upon children in "show business." Yes, the PR professional in me has way too many words of advice and so little time. But, the mom, the auntie, the big sister in me, has just these words to share:

Your broken heart will heal. Yes, it will heal and find the capacity to love more than you ever thought possible. Probably when you least expect to love again. And, maybe even to love children of your own someday.

You are beautiful. Not Hannah Montana. Not Miley Cyrus the actor, singer, performer. Not even Destiny Hope. But, Y-O-U. The person you were created to be. The real you is beautiful inside and out.

You are loved. Let the people who really love you, love you. Show love to others in return. Let go and let love in. You and your entire world will change. Try it, it will.

Forgive. Forgive your parents, your friends your fans. Forgive all who have wronged you and ask for forgiveness in return. Forgiveness is the key to a happy life.

Give Back. Follow your heart's passion to give of your time and money (without the cameras and a PR rep telling you to do so!). Reach out and give the gift of time to an organization that is important to you. Trust me, it will change your life and theirs.

Yes, it may not be your fault for entering the business, but it's up to you on where you take it from here. What do you want your legacy to be? What can you do today that will make a positive difference tomorrow? Yes, "life's what you make it" and it is truly a gift. What will your gift to the world be?
