Everything Is Possible With Momentum Thinking

It's fair to say that in order for something to move forward, there must be open space in front of it. Like a boulder at the brink of rolling down a hill. It can only gain momentum if there's space in front of it. The same can be said for our way of thinking. If we want momentum in our businesses and lives, we must be thinking in terms of spaciousness, not limitation.

Momentum thinking creates space and possibility. It's thinking in the zone of possibilities rather than the zone of expectations. Expectation, by definition, is a pre-determined outcome. We expect our business to hit a sales goal. We expect children to behave a certain way. We expect our lives to turn out as we envisioned. By thinking in terms of expectation, we have pre-determined the outcome. In doing so, we may have also shut down the possibility of so much more.

Many a coaching client has iterated that while he or she is quite satisfied with their life and business, it feels like something is missing. They sense a possibility of being more, doing more, and having more. What these individuals are looking for is help in bringing out their "more"- help breaking out of the zone of expectations and into the zone of possibilities. They wonder what is in their way. What's blocking them from reaching the next level in their business? How do they get out of thinking in the zone of expectation and momentum thinking in the zone of possibilities? The answer is trust. Trust in what you cannot control.

"There's no way to be open to all possibilities if you don't trust in what you can't control."

Trusting in what you cannot control does not mean to throw caution to the wind or to let the chips fall where they may. It means letting go of pre-determined expectations so there's space for anything and everything to happen. For example, if you expect to make a certain amount of money, you've pre-determined what you think you should make. In essence, you've closed yourself off to the uncontrolled possibility that you might in fact make more, perhaps even a lot more. If you expect certain things to happen or for life to look a certain way, you might not be open to all that is possible. So, there really is no way to be open to everything that is possible if you don't trust in what you cannot control.

With momentum thinking and trust it's possible that you will receive much more than you ever could have imagined or expected. Possibility exists when you don't pre-determine the outcome. Possibility exists outside of the zone of expectation. It takes trust to lean into all that is possible; it takes trust to create unlimited possibility. So, how do you get that push forward?

Momentum thinking has three facets that move you from what you can expect to what is possible. First, the gap between your expectation and what is possible needs to be huge, almost unrealistically so. For example, you might say to yourself, "I expect to earn one $100,000 this year." Momentum thinking instead takes you from that expectation to the realm of "It's possible I could earn $500,000 this year." More hard work won't get you there -it won't be enough. That's why you'll have to trust in outside forces, strategies, and even unknowns. Second, you must prepare your life for what it could be. Life your life "as if" what is possible already exists. You must prepare. Create space, schedule time, dedicate resources, and prepare both your physical and mental well-being for all that is possible. Finally, third, regardless of how huge the possibility is, it absolutely must be represented by something tangible. It must be bigger than imaginable yet still be represented by something concrete (e.g., an amount of money, a number of clients, etc.). Visualizing success isn't enough. It's too general. You must visualize something real- HUGE but real. A beach house. Family vacations. Your ideal lifestyle. Something that represents unlimited possibility for you.

Momentum thinking embodies all that is possible. It creates a gaping hole in the ceiling of the zone of expectations. It creates a chasm large enough to soar through- a vast expanse filled and fueled by a trust in all that is possible- a trust in things that are beyond your control.

Work out of the zone of expectation and into the realm of success and possibility with momentum thinking.
