Here's What I'd Like To Hear More of In 2010

Silence. Allowing space for contemplation. For creativity. For whatever comes. Yes, John Cage is an inspiration for this post. An American composer, Cage was one of the leading figures in post-war avant-garde, and is best known for his 1952 composition 4'3", in which not a single note is played. Instead, listeners tune to the ambient sound around them. (Watch John Cage's performance of this piece.) Wondering: do you suppose it's available from iTunes?

My wish is that, in 2010, we will all stop shouting from time to time and simply listen.

Julia Moulden is somewhere in the countryside, listening to the snow fall. In the new year, she'll be on tour talking softly about the New Radicals.
