What's Up Down Under? 8 Companies Lead Springboard's Inaugural Class

I was in Australia last week with our Springboard team to launch our inaugural accelerator program for women entrepreneurs raising equity capital. This is a historic moment. Springboard Australia Chairman, Wendy Simpson has assembled a host of supporting organizations to bring our top performing program to Oz.

The eight entrepreneurs were chosen from 56 formal applications and over 100 inquiries to be Springboard inductees. Lord Mayor Clover Moore, introduced them at a reception attended by the influential Sydney business community on Tuesday night. These entrepreneurs are igniting the technology sector.

All eight attended the boot camp on Tuesday conducted By Springboard Co-founder and President, Amy Millman. She brought a team of 10 entrepreneurs and investors from the U S to conduct the training sessions. Following boot camp, the entrepreneurs will be assigned coaches to prepare them for presentation to investors in 12 to 16 weeks.

I also met with a number of individuals from government and business in Sydney and Melbourne. Both communities came out in enthusiastic support. Sydney's Mark Carnegie hosted an entrepreneur meet up on Monday evening to express his support. He remarked that he is an enthusiastic supporter of women not because of gender, but because he expected to make money investing in them.

The BioMelbourne Network held a lunch and discussion on the status of commercialization. Springboard can be the accelerator for commercialization in their robust sector. This topic prompted an energized discussion.

The Australian-Israel Chamber of Commerce hosted a dinner in Melbourne in support of the entrepreneurial efforts of Springboard. Chamber Chairman, Leon Kemplar, hosted the event with prominent members of the community. Springboard, has a well-developed program in Israel and we are bringing the same focus in support of women entrepreneurs in technology and life sciences to Australia.

This was a groundbreaking week in Australia for all entrepreneurs. We would like Springboard entrepreneurs to lead the way to a more robust and successful venture capital market. The time is ripe. Let's begin now.
