At the age of 8, Sammi the Springer Spaniel underwent surgery to remove a bone growing near his spinal column. Unfortunately, Sammi's surgeon was unable to remove the excess bone. Following surgery, the pup's health declined. His family was devastated.

Sammi needed intense rehabilitation, as he became quadriplegic post-surgery. Praying for a miracle, his family brought him to California Animal Rehabilitation (CARE) in Santa Monica.

His recovery was bleak. Doctors feared Sammi would live out his days with full paralysis.

But after three arduous months of daily rehabilitation -- including assisted standing in the underwater treadmill and sensory rehabilitation over a therapy ball -- Sammi defied the odds and finally took his first steps. Soon, he learned to walk again.

In the video below, watch the triumphant moment Sammi is reunited with his mom Janie, who's completely shocked to see him walk again for the first time. I can't even imagine the pride and joy felt by the CARE team. Janie's reaction is simply amazing!

God bless the medical and rehabilitation staff who worked tirelessly to save Sammi. Thanks to them, the courageous dog went on to run, play, and swim.
