War Against Women

There is a war going on. It's a war against women.

Beauty is under attack, not only the outward physical beauty but the deep femininity that exists within women. Today, after reading CNN's article about the 14-year-old Bangladeshi girl lashed to death, my reaction was one of outrage. Her crime: adultery. Although, her family vehemently denies this claim and said she was raped. Refusing to be broken by her death, her family has instead decided to box back by making public the punishment that took place in Shariatpur, a rural village in Bangladesh.

My plea today is to women to become armor bearers in this war against women currently raging in Libya, Afghanistan, Congo, Iran, and countless other places around the world.

Here in America, we are constantly bombarded with the thought of human rights. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, liberal and fundamentalist alike fling the term, while disregarding what freedom truly means. The idea of human rights has become profane and suffers abuse for the advancement of self.

What is occurring in countries around the world, not to mention the rampant domestic violence that takes place in this country are not inconsequential. It is pertinent that we stand up as servants to the cause. It is time to help bear the burden with women suffering around the world.
