Solar Grew 5x Faster Than Rest of US Economy in 2012, reports Joe Romm at Climate Progress, adding 14,000 new jobs in California, Arizona, New Jersey and elsewhere, totalling over 100,000 US jobs now. Imagine how many more jobs could be created if Congress increased support for solar!

Wrong Clean Energy Will Further Destabilize Iraq, as a regional Iraqi leader says that the oncoming Turkish Ilisu hydroelectric dam, which will further cut water to that already politically fragile country, will dry up the livelihoods of nearly 30% of Iraq's people, reports Julia Harte (FD: my daughter) at National Geographic Newswatch. To understand the impact, imagine 30% of Americans' livelihoods drying up - and we're considered a tad more stable than Iraq...

It's Getting Hotter, Faster says a large, international study, wiping out a global cooling trend that had occurred over the past 2,000 years, reports Joe Romm at Climate Progress. During this time, the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age were just regional blips. How hot, how fast? Dramatically. Time for dramatic action....

OO Video: Flying Towards a Clean Future - watch this man fly!!! This video of a basejumper, one who literally jumps off a mountaintop in a wingsuit to fly several miles at 100+ mph, is a great metaphor for humanity's transition to clean energy: the planning, preparation, visualization and ultimately the exhilarating success that humanity can experience doing so... a great high!

OO New book: America's Climate Century, by Iowa State Senator Rob Hogg, is a "concise, accurate, and above all practical guide to the great problem of our time; it gets beyond idology to concentrate on what needs doing now," says 35.org founder Bill McKibben. It truly is impressive. Check it out here!

Carbon Emissions Rob Our Kids Blind $3 Trillion Yearly says a new report that estimates how much lost value in resources accrue yearly, reports Jeff Spross at Climate Progress. Think about it, the next time you go vote - because electing intelligent leaders to act on clean energy is the best thing you can do, short of not creating additional consumers.

Take the Clinton Climate Quiz: A tree will be planted in Haiti for every person who does, so take it and pass it on! You can also win a chance to go help install solar panels there...

Renewables To Be 70 Percent of New Power by 2030, says Bloomberg Finance, reports Tim McDonnell at the Climate Desk, but it will represent only 50% of the world's total power - good, but still not good enough to avert ominous climate change.

Drop Fossil Fuel Subsidies Worldwide, IMF Urges, reports Paul Brown at Climate Central. Doing so, says this financially conservative organization, will help encourage clean energy adoption, and free resources to spend on more essential things like the education and welfare of their citizens. It can't happen soon enough...

☼☼☼Acting Like You Care: The XL Keystone pipeline will make possible far more climate change, but President Obama might okay it anyway. Credo, 350.org and others are asking people to stand up and be counted as nonviolent resisters or help in other ways. I did. If you ever wanted to do something big for your future, now's your chance - here.

Over one million Americans submitted comments to the State Department, opposing the Keystone pipeline.

Every day is Earth Day, folks, as I was reminded by this saw whet owl Jen Joynt so generously shared with me. Making the U.S. a global clean energy leader will ensure a heck of a lot more jobs, and a clean, safe future. If you'd like to join the increasing numbers of people who want to TELL Congress that they will vote for clean energy candidates you can do so here. It's our way of letting Congress know there's a strong clean energy voting bloc out there. For more detailed summaries of the above and other climate change items, audio podcasts and texts are freely available.
