Political Workout Music For The Convention, Part Two

As the Democratic National Convention gets into full swing, we're continuing our project of listing one workout song for every state in the union. How'd we do?

The Democratic National Convention is getting into full swing with last night's speeches from party stars like San Antonio's Mayor Julian Castro and the First Lady Michelle Obama, and many of you may be glued to the coverage. We're continuing our project of listing one workout song for every state in the union. We hope it will inspire you to get up, run, spin, swim or train just a little bit harder. Because, as I wrote earlier, political passion shouldn't be the only thing to get your blood pumping.

Iowa: "Keep A Knockin'," Everly Brothers
The massively influential rock duo grew up in Shenandoah, Iowa, where their musician father, Ike, had a radio show.

Kansas: "Tightrope," Janelle Monae feat. Big Boi
Monae grew up in Kansas City, where her family has deep roots.

Kentucky: "Treatment of the Sun," The Pass
The synth pop act hails from Louisville.

Louisiana: "Up, Up, Up," Givers
Sunny pop quintet, Givers come from Lafayette.

Maine: "Penny Licks," Lady Lamb the Beekeeper
Aly Spaltro grew up all over, but settled on Maine in 2004, where she began writing and performing music as Lady Lamb the Beekeeper.

Maryland: "Taste," Animal Collective
This experimental electronic outfit was formed by childhood friends from Baltimore.

Massachusetts: "I'll Be Alright," Passion Pit
The electropop pioneers who comprise Passion Pit are Cambridge, Mass., natives.

Michigan: "Hung Up," Madonna
Pop superstar Madonna Ciccione was born in Bay City, Mich.

Minnesota: "Sorry Somehow," Hüsker Dü
An influential band in the early-90s garage rock movement, Hüsker Dü originally formed and played in Saint Paul.

Mississippi: "Toxic," Britney Spears
The iconic pop star was born in McComb, Miss., even though she spent much of her childhood in Louisiana.

Missouri: "Speaking Politely," Sleepy Kitty
St. Louis-based Sleepy Kitty has earned praise for their fresh take on garage rock from no less than Paste Magazine.

Montana: "One Engine," Decembrists
Frontman Colin Meloy was raised in Helena, though he and the rest of the band are now based in Portland, Ore.

Nebraska: "Babes," Icky Blossoms
This up-and-coming rock band is based in Omaha.

Nevada: "Mickey," Toni Basil
Antonia Basilotta went to high school in Las Vegas, which is also the provenance of her iconic cheerleading outfit on the cover of famous single Mickey.
