Beck = Loser

Glenn Beck is a serious loser, one of the worst people on the face of the planet. And I am trying hard to be diplomatic, because telling you what I really think would not be permitted on the pages of the Huffington Post.

This is a guy who called Hurricane Katrina survivors "scumbags", and said he hates the families who lost relatives in 9/11. This is the creep who said Obama hates white people, and frequently compares Obama to Hitler. This the hateful man who called the father of an American executed by terrorists in Iraq a scumbag, and said he wasn't grieving for his son. This is the jerk who said to a 7 year old African-American child "You want to go to Africa? I will personally purchase your airfare."

Last night, Beck turned his attention to a friend of mine, Bob Creamer, trying to smear Bob with all his usual tactics of lies and half-truths.

Bob makes an easy target because he spent a few months in jail a few years ago. Bob's crime? He floated checks to keep a great progressive public interest organization alive that he was running at the time. Bob did not profit personally from these actions, and no bank lost any money. He admitted that his actions were an error in judgment, and in fact probably wouldn't have been prosecuted at all except for the Bush Justice department's strange decision, with two days left to go before the statute of limitations ended, to suddenly decide to charge him.

So Glenn Beck decides to go after Bob last night, saying among other things that he was the "mastermind" behind the entire Obama strategy for selling the health care plan. I would love for Bob to have that kind of power, because he is a very smart guy, but unfortunately it is not true. If the White House had actually followed all of Bob's strategic advice, they might have passed a much stronger health care bill much sooner.

As a reader of the Huffington Post, you are probably familiar with Bob"s eloquent blog posts on a wide range of issues. He is also an author of a great book on organizing called "Listen to your Mother: Stand Up Straight". I think it would be great if progressives would go online and buy Bob's book, just to send a signal that we have Bob's back. It would be sweet revenge if Bob's book jumped to the top of the Amazon list as a signal that we aren't going to let Beck malign good people without fighting back.

Now I will admit that I am more than a bit biased because Bob has been a friend and mentor of mine for more than 25 years now. He is the ultimate stand-up guy, and has been fighting his entire life for a better country and a better world. When a guy as a good as him is attacked by a guy as sleazy as Glenn Beck, it's really easy to figure out which side of the fight I'm on.
