Where Are The Single Ladies? Top 20 Towns To Find Your Soulmate

Looking for a single lady? Each February, Valentine's Day rolls around. Roses, chocolates, heart shaped cards, romantic dinner reservations and of course, the onslaught of commercials insisting that if you really love someone you will buy them diamonds. Whether Valentine's Day was a greeting card induced holiday or not, it can make those of us without a partner sometimes yearn to be part of a couple.

For people over 50, the challenge of finding a partner can feel daunting. If you are looking for Ms. Right, (or even just for someone to hang out with) we've done some research and digging and found the cities and towns where odds are better for you to find your Second Act Soul Mate. (Earlier this week we highlighted the Top 20 Towns to Find 50+ Men on Huffington Post.)

Today, one-third of US Baby Boomers are single (we're talking over 25 million of you). Translation: there are a lot of people over 50 looking for love, or at the very least, someone to go to the movies with.

As a general rule, women live longer than men, and the percentage of older women to men is generally greater almost everywhere. For many women, having a close network of friends is natural and keeps them vibrant and connected, even if they are unattached. They walk together, talk together, eat together, cry together.

But men, let's just say it, like to have a partner. And Boomer divorce rates have escalated the number of singles. So, if you are a 50+ man looking to woo a woman in your age group, we can point you to the towns where more of them reside as a percentage of the population. Of course, if you are over 50 and looking for 20-something arm candy, (and you know some of you are) you had better either look like George Clooney or at least have his money. And, probably both. Otherwise, if you are over 50 and single, you might want to consider planning your retirement location in one of these towns. Why not put yourself in a market where there are a lot of single women in your age group? At the very least, you'll have fun looking.

Our retirement planning website, GangsAway!, provides information to help people figure out where they might like to move or what they'd like to do in retirement. Some of the locations are the same for singles of either sex, like Washington, D.C. and New York City. But there are towns where the distinction for having more single women over 50 is all theirs. If you are looking to find your Second Act Soul Mate, why not plan your retirement in a town or city where there are lots of single ladies? At the very least, you'll have fun trying.

Below is our Top 20 Towns to find 50+ Women who are single. Using US Census data and some of our own proprietary data we identified towns that have the highest percentage of single women. We also made sure that the median household income of each town or city must be equal to or greater than the median income for that state. If you are going to retire somewhere else, you're going to want it to be nice, right?
