The annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House has opened to the public. The 44th edition of the event has transformed the Carlton House Townhouse into the premier destination for art and interior design. Each space in the five-story Lennox Hill home is redecorated by one of 21 hand-selected designers, which include the likes of Victoria Hagan, Alex Papachristidis, and David Collins Studio, with proceeds going towards the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.
Celebrating his Kips Bay debut with a three-part installation is Nashville-based designer Benjamin Vandiver, capturing An Ending, The Ascent, and Reincarnation in the three spaces he was given. The first room, "An Ending", captures a reflection space with a closet turned wall of mirrored tiles by Artistic Tile, an altar with a brass growth table by standout artist Brian Thoreen and wall coverings featuring classic atelier Callidus Guild. With Vandiver's "The Reincarnation Space", the designer highlights how classic lines like Fortuny get new life through pairings with emerging artists Material Lust. Lastly, with "The Ascent", Vandiver used the sweeping staircase and natural light that poured through the skylights above, to showcase the elevation to the next level as guided by thoughtfully curated contemporary art from De Soto Gallery. Vandiver creates a visual journey beginning from the base of the stairs to the top of the landing.
Deemed "Ones to Watch" by Architectural Digest, Vandiver demonstrates his knowledge of contemporary and innovative design through his aesthetic narrative. Conceptual pieces by Material Lust, Brian Thoreen, Misha Kahn, and Angela Markeen Naglieri interact with classic designers like Fortuny, and Callidus Guild allowing for his installation to explore spiritual and visual harmony within design.
