ANNEX, an experimental artist-run space in the Lower East Side, is the latest creation by design duo Material Lust. More environment than showroom, the ANNEX functions as a rotating installation space for conceptual art and design. The manifesto expresses a desire to create a challenging, confrontational, and provocative setting while simultaneously honoring old-world materials and methods. While forms are innovative and Surrealist, their collection is hand made by generations of master artisans in New York and Florence, Italy.

In addition to displaying pieces from their own collections, Material Lust creators Christian Lopez Swafford and Lauren Larson hope to foster artistic partnerships in their salon. Current features include a collaboration with Brooklyn-based artists To Dødsfall to create a series of all-black, handwoven works inspired by bodily irregularities. Also on display, a painting of a black leather jacket sleeve by tattoo artist Tamara Santibanez and selections from Swafford and Larson's private label, ORPHAN WORK. Together with furniture from Material Lust's current and past collections, the ANNEX is transformed into a functional yet abstract living room.
