Are you surrounded by family, friends or colleagues who are negative? If yes, then you know they aren't the most enjoyable bunch to be around. Negative people can be real downers in any setting or conversation; sometimes their presence alone changes the vibe in a room or a crowd. No matter what you say or how you say it, they have a way of spinning things in a negative direction. Some of them can be so negative that it feels draining just being around them. Sadly, such people are part of our families, work environments and social circles.

When we are engage with those who belong to the "misery loves company" club, we become susceptible to their influence. If we are not careful, they can infect us with their negativity. If by chance, you find yourself participating in a pity party at work or elsewhere, politely excuse yourself.

Since you may not want to totally eliminate such people from your life, especially if its family, just arrange things so you only have to deal with them in small doses. The key is to have minimum exposure to such energies which can begin to seep in without your awareness. If not mindful, their thoughts and emotions will slowly become yours too. At first it may not be obvious, but eventually you'll notice the shift in your vibe or energy as you take on more of theirs. Your life force is a precious resource, a wellspring of positivity, and one that needs to be protected.

It's not healthy to spend too much time with people who drain you. As Hans F. Hasen puts it, "People inspire you, or they drain you. PICK THEM WISELY." In other words, who you associate with or share your time with has an impact on the person you eventually become.
