Roadkill: OffTheBus's Ongoing RoundUp of the Awkward

2007-09-18-20070918roadkill.gif

The following piece was produced through the Huffington Post's OffTheBus. Edited by Richard Riehl and Denise Wheeler. Reported by Kirsten Anderson, River Curtis-Stanley, Jodi Lampert, Julie Pierce, and Debbi Plummer.

Whatever the market will bear, Freddy: Fred Thompson is planning a campaign swing through California at the end of the month. In an email to his supporters this week we discover it will cost you $500 to have breakfast with him in San Diego, but only $250 to break bread with him in San Francisco. Looks like selling Fred's just like selling real estate: location, location, location.

Tancredo wins in New Hampshire!: Oh no, silly, not the primary--the race to be the first major candidate to officially sign up for a spot on the NH primary ballot. Ahh, it's good to be number one...at something...for a moment...Enjoy the sunshine, Tom.

Everybody needs some quiet time: What's up, Chris Dodd? Let's take a look at the events calendar on the Dodd website. Hmmm..."There are currently no upcoming events. Please check back soon!" Don't worry, Chris--we're sure something...from someone...somewhere...who wants to hear from you will come up soon.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the most Republican of all?: First Romney claims he represents the "Republican wing of the party," then McCain says he's the real Elephant, only to have Freddy come along and declare he's the most pachydermal of all. Now Rudy has taken a crack at it, telling a crowd at the Republican Jewish Coalition yesterday, "I gave my blood for the Republican Party in New York." Back in 1996, though, he declared on national TV, "Well, I'm a Republican mayor, but I'm really not. I ran as a Republican, I ran as a Liberal -- which really confuses all kinds of people-- and I ran as an Independent.... So I'm not the most partisan of Republicans." Now even the elephants are confused.
