Everyone seems to be in love with the bright red hot sauce, but Sriracha maker Huy Fong Foods recently got put on a 30-day hold by the California Department of Health.

The shutdown was to allow time for public health officials to inspect the bottles, ingredients and the process of making the condiment that has become so popular that some people use it to make doughnuts and it even has its own documentary movie.

If you're a hot sauce fiend this might seem like terrible news, but not to worry, you can be happy knowing that the peppery sauce can be easily made at home.

Ever read the ingredients on the back of a Sriracha bottle? Then you know it's more than just hot sauce -- potassium sorbate, sodium bisulfite, xantham gum... tasty. Fortunately if you make your own version you can be sure of what ingredients are going into your spicy concoction.

Five ingredients, 25 minutes and a well-ventilated kitchen is all you need to make this version from the Los Angeles Times.

2. DIY Sriracha
This version from Serious Eats incorporates Thai chiles for an extra exotic flavor.

For anyone that is on the caveman diet this one is 100 percent Paleo friendly.

From Blue Kale Road, this recipe incorporates apple cider vinegar instead of rice and a bit of honey for a touch of sweetness.

This version comes from The Sriracha Cookbook. Make the sauce, get the book and start putting the sauce into every single dish possible.

Some pepper sauce recipes include fish sauce, but this one is 100 percent vegan, and also raw and gluten-free. It uses a touch of tamari for extra taste.

Switch up the traditional and use jalapeno and serrano peppers.

Once you've mastered the sauce, then move on to pair it with salt; making for the ultimate table condiment.
