Do You Have a Green Thumb With People?

I once read that we should all tend to the people in our world as though they are plants in a garden. We should nurture every one of them because you never know who might end up being your best friend or even your soulmate.

This was clever advice all right, but what if you don't have a green thumb? Over time I realized nurturing people as though they are plants just requires one piece of tending: kindness.

This realization was actually a huge relief because all the transplanting and the proper sunlight and the pruning can make my head spin. But kindness? Now that's something I can focus on.

I actually found my soulmate with this garden philosophy. My husband was my friend for several months before he romanced me. I also found a prize of a friend when I took a class called "Why I Love Paris." There are special people in our landscape, unassuming plants on the cusp of blooming, at any moment in time.

All we have to do is tend to everyone in our world with kindness. and then keep an eye on what blooms.
