Gratitude should not be shelved, but if we're honest we all do this from time to time.

We delay gratitude, waiting for the puzzle of our life to piece itself together perfectly. But there may always be a missing piece whether it's a health challenge, a financial struggle or any number of obstacles.

This hit me last night when I was watering the garden and taking in the "post-drought radiance" of my flowers. Everything is growing, including my 14-year old who now towers over me. It occurred to me that we may be challenge-free in a few years, but he'll be off to college so we should really embrace everything in our life right now.

I've decided to look at everything - not just my post-drought garden - through the lens of appreciation. It would be foolish to delay gratitude until my life is picture perfect because I have a sneaking suspicion that life never is.
