This is how my friend so eloquently described his combat strategy in his war on cancer.

He fought it valiantly and I'm happy to report that, in the end, he won.

During his struggle I came across a place called Cancer Survivors Park, and I've since discovered there are quite a few of these parks in the United States.

This one is -- appropriately -- off Hope St. in Santa Rosa, Calif., and if you're ever in the area you'll want to check it out.

For now, I'll take you there.

This sweet, little park has lilac trees and a walk way with messages on plaques between the trees on the pathway.

Here are some of the most uplifting messages:

"Cancer is the most curable of all the chronic diseases."

"There are treatments for every type of cancer."

"Some people have been cured from every type of cancer."

"Realize that cancer is a life-threatening disease but some beat it. Make up your mind you will be one of those who do."

"Make a commitment to do everything in your power to help yourself fight the disease."

"Make up your mind that when your cancer is gone, you are through with it."

Okay, my valiant friend. You have kicked cancer's ass, and now you are through with it!
