Race to the Fashion Finish Line

The time between January and February has become a race in the fashion industry... a constant motion of actions that are fueled by my focus to cross the finish line. Since my current collection has debuted at Spring Fashion Week, I can stop, rest, take a breath and reflect if only for moments at a time. I've made it a goal of mine this spring, to be more present, to go outside, pay attention to the little things and to ultimately slow down amidst the chaos. I stumbled upon this quote and it completely resonated with me, reminding me to stop, appreciate life as it is happening, and observe nature -- the small yet entirely large things.

The world today is about hurry up! Get there faster! Work harder, produce more, hurry up, eat quickly, be on time, don't get stressed- headaches, conflict, drink to calm down, go to training on stress management, time management -- STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! STOP! Go spend five minutes with a flower or a plant. Look at it -- think about it -- look at its beauty, smell it, close your eyes and smell it again. Touch it; touch it with your eyes closed. Listen to it; listen to it with your eyed closed. Slow your mind down. Think about the little things. Now close your eyes and pray.

After the presentation I went to the country. I sat there and just listened to the quiet... and just for the record, I don't always need the countryside to balance, but it sure does help... five minutes of focusing on something in nature, slows me down and reminds me I am living in the present -- because the worst is, not feeling what you are living in the moment.
