Ever wondered how much federal money the state of Illinois gets to fund its elementary and secondary school programs? So did we. As it turns out, Illinois is still one of five states that got the most federal funding in the 2013 fiscal year (the year for which the most recent data is available). We examined these numbers last year and not much as changed. These numbers reflect funding levels for programs including career and technical education, programs for homeless children and youth, special education, and other projects. States can also receive other federal funds (based on performance) not reflected in the numbers below.

The total amount of federal money that Illinois received in FY 2013 was $7,840,521,141.14 according to the most recent state budget report.
