You may have caught a little story this week about a certain (allegedly) deceased rapper? Yes, Tupac Shakur's unexpected appearance at the Coachella Music Festival lit up social media.

But a hologram Tupac on tour? Long-term interest and success of 3D tech is notoriously hard to predict, once the novelty wanes. Witness Nintendo's Virtual Boy, which probably also sounded great on paper. And 3D televisions aren't flying off the shelves, no matter how much the industry tells us we need them. Then again, we don't seem to have a problem paying $20 bucks to see a 3D version of a 15-year-old movie, so maybe there is hope for a virtual tour.
