Oh, oh, oh, these are good. They're Oreo Christmas truffles, and they're as festive as they are fabulous tasting. The middle is a creamy mixture of Oreos and cream cheese, then they're coated in chocolate.
The recipe is from Texas Cottage, and she decorated them beautifully with red and green chocolate, but you can decorate them anyway you like, with sprinkles or other adornments. A box of them makes an adorable gift, and they look great on a holiday buffet. They also freeze well, so you can make a couple batches and now, and then pop them out as you need them. And trust me, you will NEED them.
Oreo Christmas Truffles
1 (15-16 ounce) package Oreos
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14 ounce) bag dark cocoa candy melts
1/2 cup red candy melts
1/2 cup green candy melts
Line a large cookie sheet with wax paper. In food processor, crush the cookies using quick on-and-off motions, until the consistency of fine crumbs.
In a large bowl, mix cookie crumbs with the cream cheese until well blended. Roll into 1-inch balls. Place on cookie sheet. Freeze 30 minutes or until firm.
In a small microwavable bowl, microwave the dark cocoa candy melts according to package directions. Stir until smooth.
Remove a few truffles from the freezer at a time. Dip each truffle in the melted chocolate to cover; tap off excess. Place on wax paper until chocolate is set.
Place 1/2 cup red or green candy melts in a disposable decorating bag and melt in microwave according to package directions. Snip off the tip of the bag and drizzle the melted candy coating on the truffles. After the coating is set, store the truffles in the refrigerator or freezer in an airtight container or zip-lock bag.
Makes about 30 truffles.
